about

Whenever I think of Genghis Khan, I can't help but imagining him rolling out with his posse like some 13th century cowboy. He was rough and ruthless, but he also built an empire that was remarkably tolerant. His childhood is stepped in legend, and filled with so much potential danger it makes him an irresistible person to study. The chorus of the song references this by having Genghis pleading that he is simply a product of his uncertain childhood, and that all his subsequent actions should be judged in light of this fact.

lyrics

Somebody bring me my horses ‘cus I feel that I’ve been wronged
Don’t believe in second chances, wrong me once and you’ll find yourself gone
Everything’s piled up from the beginning
My father’s dead and my mother’s forlorn
And all this business about my brother, you got it wrong

See that village over there? I’m about to set it on fire
Watching all the locals run, you know it kind of makes me inspired
And everything’s piled up from the beginning
My father’s dead and my mother’s forlorn
And all this business about my brother, you got it wrong

I’m sure I’ll be remembered for my cruelty
Never mind what I did for my people
Horses and blood and trade and maybe love
That’s all that I was looking for
And everything’s piled up from the beginning
My father’s dead and my mother’s forlorn
And all this business about my brother, you got it wrong
